Mealime is shutting down on October 21, 2026 — here's what to use instead
There is no export. Whatever you want to keep — recipes, plans, your usual grocery list — has to come out of Mealime by hand before it closes. Below: what to save today, and how PantryRx™ covers what you were using. Free, no account, no subscription.
What happened
Mealime is shutting down on October 21st, 2026. As a farewell thank-you, Pro is now free for everyone. If you're a current Pro subscriber, your subscription will not renew.
— Mealime's own release notes on its App Store listing (opens in a new tab), retrieved 19 September 2026.
- Albertsons Companies acquired Mealime in 2021.
- Mealime users are being directed to Meals Hub, a feature inside Albertsons' grocery apps — Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco and Albertsons. Reaching it means having an account in one of those store apps.
- The shutdown notice offers no way to export recipes, meal plans or grocery lists.
That last point is the one that matters this month. A shutdown date is a calendar problem; no export is a “do it now or lose it” problem.
Ten minutes, today
Do this before October 21, 2026
All of this happens inside Mealime, while it's still up. None of it needs PantryRx.
- Copy out the recipes you actually cook. There is no export, so screenshots or copy-and-paste are the only way to keep them. Ten favourites is usually plenty — you can paste them into PantryRx later.
- Write down your grocery staples. The items that end up on every list. You will tap them into your PantryRx pantry in about a minute.
- Note your diet and allergy settings. Which eating style you were on and which allergens you had filtered, so you can set them again.
- Save any meal plan you want to repeat. A screenshot of a week you liked is enough to rebuild it.
After October 21, 2026 there is no documented way to get any of it back.
Feature by feature
What you used in Mealime, and where it lives in PantryRx
PantryRx does not import from Mealime — there is nothing to import from. This is about what the app does once you're in it.
| What you used in Mealime | In PantryRx |
|---|---|
| Weekly meal plan | This week — plan breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for 1–7 days, not just dinners |
| Shopping list, sorted by aisle | Groceries — one combined list by aisle, minus what's already in your pantry |
| Recipe library (best ones behind Pro) | Nearly 1,000 recipes, all free — no tier, no paywall |
| Diet profiles | The same 8 eating styles — Classic, Flexitarian, Vegetarian, Vegan, Pescatarian, Low Carb, Keto, Paleo |
| Allergy filtering | 12 allergens enforced by deterministic rules on every recipe — not AI guesswork |
| Grocery delivery hand-off | Send the whole list to an Instacart cart in one tap |
| Cooking mode | Step-by-step mode with timers — plus hands-free: wave a hand to advance a step |
| Pantry tracking | Pantry-first planning — plans start from what you own and what's expiring |
| Pro subscription | Free — no subscription, no ads, no account |
| Account required | No account — plans, pantry and preferences stay on your device |
| Apple Watch | Watch app — today's meals, cooking with wrist timers, grocery check-off in the aisle |
| Export your data — Mealime offers none | Export your data from Settings, any time |
Instacart is a third-party service; availability varies by location and PantryRx may earn a commission on qualifying orders at no cost to you. PantryRx gives general nutrition information, not medical advice — always check labels for allergens.
